Boogle Dictionary Update

About: Boogle uses a generic dictionary (spell checker) to check the words you enter. Because it is “generic”, it contains many words not allowed in Boogle, such as names, abbreviations, etc.  Occasionally I will post new versions of the Spell Check file as I remove illegal words.

NOTE:  This will update the Boogle Dictionary to the latest version. This update can be used on any version of Boogle (3.x and 4.x).

File Name: SpellCheck.dct

How to “install”:

Advanced users: Download the new ‘SpellCheck.dct’ file and simply replace the old one in your Boogle folder with the new one.

Detailed Instructions:

  • Download the “SpellCheck.dct” file to your computer.
  • Start Windows Explorer: Click Start, then ‘Run’. Type in “explorer” (without the quotes).
  • In Windows Explorer, find the file you downloaded. You may need to first choose ‘My Computer’, then pick the drive letter (most likely ‘C’), then the folder you downloaded it to.
  • If you cannot find the file you downloaded, try searching for the file “SpellCheck.dct” (without the quotes). To do this, choose ‘Search’ or ‘Find’ from the menu in Windows Explorer.
  • Once you’ve found the file, RIGHT-CLICK on it. Then choose ‘Copy’ from the menu that will pop up.
  • Browse to the folder you installed Boogle to.  If you installed it to the default folder, it should be ‘C:\Program Files\Boogle’.
  • The right side of the Windows Explorer window should list the files in the Boogle folder.  You should also see “SpellCheck.dct” in the folder already. That is the file you are replacing.
  • On an empty spot of the right side of the window, RIGHT-CLICK and choose ‘Paste’ from the menu that will pop up.
  • It should ask you if you want to replace the current file with the new one.  Choose ‘Yes’.
  • You’re done! If you’d like, you can go back and delete the ‘SpellCheck.dct’ file from the folder you originally downloaded it to.
